I was born to a woman who had a hard life. She had with different men so she could be loved. None of these men stuck around because my broken mom picked broken men (that is how it works). My job was helping out in a preschool. The second program and the one that is closest to my heart is Upward Bound. It was for low income who had the potential to go to college. It provided torturing to bring up the grades and then had the students spend the living in the dorms so they knew what campus life was like. I graduated with a degree in Development from the same University I was an Upward Bound kid (with no student loans. My husband and I work and I paid as I went and was never in debt for my education something I am hoping we can do for our in less then 4 years from now) I know I am not the norm but these programs for poor people helped me. I have never been on public assistance for anything and our tax returns prove I have paid back. Even my very conservative husband agrees these programs can help because I am living proof of it. As an adult I have taught Head Start Preschool. Not because it was the highest paying job there is but because I needed to give back and help other poor like me find the right path. The Preschool Project studied the in their Head Start Program over time age 27 and 40 and the research shows that for every dollar spent on Early Childhood Education the that got support at an early age where much better off and their need for government assistance was much less.
