Seeking the impossible, I suspect m4w I'm not even sure exactly how to refer to what I'm looking for, and that's certainly not a good start.

We obviously wouldn't be limited to that, however.
I'm coming to the conclusion that part of the challenge of my life is adapting to the mindset of others; I've surrounded myself with people who seem to have fundamentally different values than I. While I'm not averse to a diversity of ideas, and actually thrive on it, in this situation I'd like to talk to someone of an already similar mindset on the important matters of life. That would mean someone who is caring, who accepts people as they are, and tries to understand where others are coming from with some degree of compassion. Someone who clings to the idea that love matters, even when life tries to convince them otherwise. Someone loyal to their friends. Someone who does not have religion as a core focus of their lives; someone who is not necessarily an atheist as I am, but definitely someone who wouldn't describe themselves as devout. Someone who is politiy aware, and can discuss big social ideas with someone of a libertarian mindset; you don't necessarily have to agree, but if you think such ideas aren't worthy of serious thought, we wouldn't interact well.
I'm not entirely sure about this, but I suspect that another individual who is married would be better, but I'm not averse to talking to anyone.
OK, having front-loaded this with what I'm looking for and a bunch of weighty stuff, here's what I have to offer: I'm a great and empathetic listener, and I have a good sense of when to offer advice and when to just shut the hell up, listen, and be supportive. I'm loyal to my friends to a fault. I'm told I'm intelligent and funny, and often sarcastic. For the right person, I can be hugely entertaining. I want to hear about what you're interested in, because there are few topics I don't want to hear about from a passionate and intelligent person. Way down here, I realize that what I'm looking for is a consigliere--an important, trusted and revered adviser--, and I would serve that same role for this other person.
