Advocate founder Aristide 'AJ' Laurent dies Aristide J. ("AJ") Laurent, a pioneer in the rights movement and a founder of the Advocate newspaper, died at his home in Los on October 26 after a illness, friends announced. He was 70. Mr. Laurent was at the forefront of marches and several causes, including the anti movement of the s and s. In he participated in pre-Stonewall "Black Cat" protests against harassment of gays.
